NEWS: Plea in Delhi High Court challenging guidelines for class XI admission age limit; notice issued to Delhi government

A single -judge bench of Justice Jayant Nath, Delhi High Court issued notice to Delhi Government on a petition which challenge the validity of circular dated October 16, 2020 that provides maximum age of 17 years for admission in class XI with the relaxation of 1 year, however no admission in case of a gap year.

Plea filed by student Ravish Kumar Singh through Adv Ashok Agarwal challenge the circular as being arbitrary, discriminatory, illegal and violative of Articles 14, 21 and 21A of the Constitution; also, being in conflict with the provisions of Delhi School Education Act, 1973.

Petition also sought to direct Delhi government to admit petitioner in class XI in the academic year 2020-21 in or in Government Boys Senior Secondary School (Pandara Road) any of the Delhi government schools near his residence.
