NEWS: SC Dismisses NLSIU Appeal Against HC Order for Promotion of Students

The Supreme Court dismissed the special leave petition filed by the National Law School of India University against an order of Karnataka High Court to promote students to the next academic year.

National Law School of India University v. Hruday P.B and Anr.

A Bench of Justice SK Kaul and Justice Hrishikesh Roy directed the university to allow students to join the 5th semester.

In this case, a student of NLSIU filed a writ petition in Karnataka High Court because NLSIU denied his admission in 4th Year on account of him failing in a subject. A Bench of Justice Krishna S Dixit allowed the petition and directed NLSIU to access and award marks to the student’s project work in question. Further, the High Court ordered that the student shall be allowed to keep the term by way of carryover/carry forward, disregarding the attendance shortage, if any.
