NEWS: Plea in Delhi High Court Seeking BCI to Conduct All India Bar Exam Online

The Single Judge Bench of Justice Jayant Nath has issued notice to the Bar Council of India.

The All India Bar Exam was scheduled to be conducted on 16th August 2020. However, the Bar Council of India canceled the exam due to the pandemic, without providing a new date.

The petition contended that BCI has not conducted examination for almost 11 months which violates rights under Article 14, 16, and 19 (1) (g) of the Constitution of India.

Moreover, petition states “when the BCI was aware of the situation, it should have conducted the online open book examination instead of the physical examination by getting in touch with National Informatics Centre.”

Further, the petition challenged the policy of Bar Council of India of not providing the benefits of Welfare Fund to the young lawyers. Petition seeks court’s direction for financial aid and its benefits to young lawyers, especially during this pandemic situation.
