NEWS: Delhi HC dismisses plea challenging Vice-Chancellor appointment process of NLU-Delhi

The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition challenging the process of appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Delhi.

(Dr Prasannanshu v. Selection Committee for VC NLUD)

The Single judge bench of Justice Jyoti Singh dismissed the petition filed by NLU Delhi faculty member Dr. Prasannanshu.

Dr. Prasannanshu had joined NLU Delhi as associate professor in 2009 and later was promoted to Professor in 2015.

There was an advertisement calling application for post of Vice-Chancellor at NLU Delhi. Petitioner contented that he had fulfilled all the conditions of eligibility as required.

He was not called for the interview round that was conducted in February 2020, even having such an excellent academic record. No reasons were provided to him.

Petitioner argued that the Selection Committee’s decision of not calling him for the interview round was illegal, arbitrary, unreasonable and not germane to the principle of intelligible differentia.

Respondent NLUD contended that the petitioner did not meet the eligibility criteria that was required and mentioned in the advertisement, for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
