Delhi Commission for Women takes Suo Moto cognizance on rape threat given to Virat Kohli’s daughter

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took suo moto cognizance of online threat given to Indian Cricket team Captain Virat Kohli’s 9-month-old daughter Vamika.

The threat comes after the 2 consecutive defeats of the Indian cricket team in the T20 World Cup series and Kolhi’s supporter for his fellow cricketer Mohammad Shami who was trolled on social media over his religion.

DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal wrote a letter to the Delhi Police stating,

“It has been reported that online threats are being given to rape the 9 month old girl child of Virat Kohli since the team’s defeat in the recent India Pakistan cricket match. It is learnt that he is also being attacked since he spoke against the incessant trolling of teammate Md. Shami who was targeted for his religion by online trolls. This is a very serious matter and attracts immediate action.”

The Commission while taking cognizance of the matter has asked the Cyber Crime Cell for registering an FIR against persons who gave rape threats to the child.

The Commission has sought copies of any FIRs filed, details of the accused identified, the steps taken by the Delhi Police to arrest the accused and a detailed action taken report in the matter by November 8, 2021.
