Nine New SC Judges Take Oath

Nine newly appointed Supreme Court Judges takes oath today. Working strength increased to 33, with one vacancy.

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath of office to the nine new judges – Justices Abhay Shreeniwas OkaVikram NathJitendra Kumar MaheshwariHima KohliBV NagarathnaCT RavikumarMM SundreshBela Trivedi and PS Narsimha.

It is the first time history of 70 years that nine judges have taken oath at the office altogether in one go.

The names of the nine judges were recommended for elevation to Supreme Court by the collegium on August 17 and were subsequently approved by the Central government on August 26.

To ensure adherence to COVID protocol, the ceremony is being held in the new auditorium of the Supreme Court located in the additional building complex near the Pragati Maidan metro station.
