NEWS: In TRP Scam SC asks Republic TV to Approach Bombay HC

The petition in the Supreme Court filed by Republic TV challenging the summons issued to the channel by the Mumbai Police in relation to the TRP scam has been dismissed as withdrawn.

The Bench Comprising of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Indu Malhotra and Justice Indira Banerjee.

In an conversation, Justice DY Chandrachud told the senior Advocate Harish Salve, who was appearing for Republic TV,

“Your client’s office is in Worli, you can go to Flora Fountain and approach the Bombay High Court under Article 226.”

Wherein Justice Indu Malhotra opined that:

“We are asking you to go to the High Court because the scope of 226 is wider than 32.”

To which Advocate Harish Salve agreed and withdrew the petition and will likely to approach the Bombay High Court.

Also Justice DY Chandrachud stated:

“We are also concerned about the fact that of late there has been a tendency of the Commissioners of Police to start giving interviews.”

In its affidavit filed in response to this plea, the Mumbai Police said that Republic TV is attempting to turn the TRP scam case into a “media spectacle”, and that rights under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution cannot act be used as a shield against commission of a crime.
