NEWS: No Manual Scavenging death reported in five years says Central Government

There are around 66,692 manual scavengers identified across the country according to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The question was put by the members of the opposition, before Ramdas Athawale, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment.

To which the Minister stated that there have been no deaths recorded in the last five years due to manual scavenging.

This response comes soon after the recent report by the central government, no deaths occurred due to shortage of oxygen amid the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The Ministry has revealed state-wise data on the number of manual scavengers.
