NEWS: Justice Pankaj Mithal appointed as Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal has been appointed to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in view of the retirement of Chief Justice Gita Mittal earlier this month.

Justice Pankaj Mithal enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in 1985 In his initial days he worked under the guidance of Sri Sudhir Chandra Verma. He mainly practices on the civil side and dealt with a large number of cases of land acquisition, rent control, education, labor, and other miscellaneous matters including service and constitution. He also served as the Standing Counsel for the Uttar Pradesh Awas Evam Vikas Parishad and Dr. B.R. Amedkar University, Agra. Later he was elevated as an additional judge of Allahabad High Court and therefore became a permanent judge in 2008.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Mithal’s elevation as the Jammu and Kashmir High Court’s Chief Justice on December 14.
